Rivers: AAC disclaims relationship with APC

By Olayinka Ajayi

The African Action Congress, AAC has dissociated itself from any court action filed to stop the election process in Rivers State as it yesterday disclaimed any relationship or collaboration with the All Progressives Congress, APC.

National legal adviser of the party, Inibehe Effiong in a telephone interview told Vanguard that while the party welcomes the endorsements received by Awara Biokpomabo, its governorship candidate in Rivers State, it, however, remained strongly independent of the APC.

He spoke against the background of insinuations of a court judgment purportedly filed on behalf of the AAC to stop the election process in Rivers State.

“I am the national legal adviser of AAC and I can confirm to you authoritatively that the party has not initiated any court action on the governorship contest in Rivers State. I should know if any action was taken and since I didn’t initiate any that means that the AAC is not involved in any court action,” Effiong said.

The party official also dismissed as untenable claims that the party was in a relationship with the APC as he said that the values of the ruling party were divergent from what his party represents.

Noting that the endorsement of the party’s governorship candidate by the minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi did not amount to an alliance between the AAC and the APC, he said:

“Everyone is welcome to give his endorsement but endorsing our candidate does not mean that our party is in alliance with the APC because our core values are essentially different,” Effiong said.
