PORT HARCOURT—Rivers State chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, yesterday, described as wicked, evil and selfish, a purported letter by pro-Rotimi Amaechi elders in the state appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to interfere in the governorship election impasse in Rivers State.
Governorship candidate of Accord Party, Precious Baridoo, who presented IPAC’s position said: “It is unfortunate that these pro-APC elders allowed themselves to be used by the Transport Minister, who is bent on imposing his stooge as governor.
“As elders and stakeholders, we expected these pro-APC elements to drop their political affiliations and face the reality of the time. We expected them to embrace the choice of Rivers people, rather than dance to the tunes of the Minister of Transportation.
“Instead of condemning the unnecessary militarisation of Rivers in a democracy and the manifest use of violence by the Army during the elections in our dear state, they chose to exhibit selective amnesia.
“This last minute desperate correspondence is simply another attempt at subverting the conclusion of the collation process.
“We call on Mr. President to disregard the calls by these elders to transfer INEC officials. This was the same call made by Amaechi after he lost his polling unit at Ubima.”
