National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather and Non-Metallic Products Employees, NUCFRLANMPE, has written to the management of Fatai Atere, Lagos based KCSSA West Africa, Limited, warning against unilateral retrenchment of its staff.
The union in a letter by its Acting National Secretary, Joseph Dada, dated March 8, 2019, addressed to the Human Resources Manager, warned that it would not accept any redundancy carried out without involvement of NUCFRLANMPE.
The letter read in part: “We have been informed that your Management have declared some workers redundant and wants to pay them by the end of the month. Recall that we have written a letter dated 9th February 2019 for unionization of your workers and your subsequent reply dated 25th February 2019 and in which you proposed to meet with us tentatively in July 2019. We view this action of proposing a very long time for meeting as a ploy to sack the workers without paying them their correct entitlement.
“In view of the above and in accordance with Labour Act, your Management is under obligation to inform the union . This you have not done. We are therefore proposing to meet with your Management on 19th March 2019 by 11.00a.m to discuss this issue while equally asking that status quo should be maintained.”
