The governor, who said this in commemoration of Mothers’ Day marked on March 31, noted that the Violence Against Persons (VAP) Prohibition law in the state would protect mothers, women, children and other vulnerable people in society from abuse.

According to him, “As we mark Mothers’ Day across the world, I join in celebrating the contribution of mothers and women to societal development. This is imperative because women have shown to be custodians of intricate strings and responsibilities that hold society together and their masterful management of their roles have ensured that we have a thriving society.”

He said, “In particular, in Edo state, we have worked with relevant stakeholders to ensure that mothers and women are well catered for. The VAP Prohibition law, which protects the vulnerable from abuse, will provide for legal redress for mothers and women, children, among others. We are also confident that the law would serve as deterrent to persons who abuse these people.”

Noting that the state government is committed to the welfare of mothers, the governor said that the revamp of the primary healthcare system in the state will serve mothers and women better and ensure that they are able to access affordable healthcare.
