THERE was pandemonium in the early hours of yesterday in Akenpai, a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, when angry mob burnt a suspected ritualist to death.
The suspect was allegedly caught on the verge of cutting the body of a young lady identified as Best, open. The deceased was said to be an indigene of the community.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect attempted to attack a mob which accosted him, with an axe he used to hack his female victim to death.
Some of the residents said that the suspect who was well known in the community behaved like a mentally unstable man during the day and a killer at night, with most of his victims females.
One of the residents who spoke on strict condition of anonymity, said: “That’s the guy that has been killing women at Akenfa. He was caught last month while trying to kill another woman and was beaten to a pulp before being handed over to the Police.
“This morning, (yesterday) he killed one Epie girl. He was apprehended while trying to butcher his victim with an axe. This is the third woman he has killed on far.”
However, the Bayelsa State Police Command spokesman, Asinim Butswat, said the suspected ritualist, who murdered the women, was known to be mentally sick.
