LAFIA – THE Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the council of chiefs in Nasarawa state have approved the selection of a supreme Court judge, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage as the new Emir of Lafia.

This followed the demise of late Emir of Lafia , Dr Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 who passed on January this year.

The state commissioner for local government and chieftain affairs, Haruna Osegba who announced the selection Tuesday in government house after a meeting between the governor and the council of chiefs.

According to the commissioner, out of the five king makers , justice Bage who is from the Dalla Dunama rulling house got four votes while the son of the late Emir , Musa Isa Mustapha Agwai who is from the Ari Dunama rulling house got only one vote.

Justice Sidi Dauda Bage was born on the 22nd of June 1956 in Lafia, he attended Ahmadu Bello University Zaria from 1977-1980 where he graduated with a second class lower division and proceeded to Nigerian law school Lagos in 1980 and was called to bar in 1981.

Bags rose through the ranks in the judiciary system to become a judge in the supreme Court.

Announcing the approval, governor Almakura also approved the selection of Isa Abubakar Umar as the new Emir of Awe, a first class chief to succeed his father who died sometimes this year.


Also approved the selection of a third class chief, Osu kadoko of Kardoroko , Umar Usman Dodo, the governor noted that with the selection of the traditional rulers, the unity of the state would be more strengthened.
