Caramel Plugg will be remembered as one of the Nigerians online celebrities who became a social media sensation in 2019.

She came into the limelight when her video went viral about how overrated The Game of Throne TV series was.

Looking back at the last few months, the online ranter, whose real name is Ogechi Ukonu, claimed she never set out seeking publicity, but nevertheless, she has made the most of the opportunity that came her way. “The Game of Thrones rant video I created circulated the internet drawing attention to my platform. So I considered it an opportunity and built on it,” she said.

The native of Abia State, born and bred in Lagos but presently studying Global Development and Communications at the University of Fraser Valley, Vancouver, Canada, claimed she has no misgivings so far being an online phenom.  “It has open doors for me. It has allowed me to connect with people and build networks with highly notable people in the film and entertainment industry. I’ve also been privileged to start my own bonnet line with this opportunity,” she said of the benefits she has reaped from the development.

Speaking further, she avowed that there are cons to every benefit.  “But rather than discouraging you, such negative development motivates you to never want to lose what you have gained, and therefore drives you to keep going,” she calmly explained.

On how she came up with the name Caramel Plugg, she offered: “The name caramel came from a conversation with my best friend a few years ago. We argued about the colours of our skin as we had similar skin colours.  She claimed that her skin colour was caramel and I argued she was brown, so we went outside and under the sun, it was clear to her that I was of a lighter tone. So we agreed I was caramel. The Plugg was a bonus.”

Presently, Caramel Plugg´s followers on Instagram are couple of thousands, while she equally has a large followership on Twitter.

Having such massive followership comes with a lot of pressure, she claimed, “especially because you just never know who’s going to perceive your content in a different manner as compared to what you delivered.”

She added: “There’s also pressure in balancing creating content with my academics, which right now, is my top priority.”

Nonetheless, Caramel Plugg has no problem with feeding her followers with content.

“There’s always an inspiration for me―an interesting quote, discussions with friends and family, or I can even imagine myself in situations,”  she said.

“As for my vibe videos, the contents are raw and undiluted because music plays a big part in my life. I’d like to believe that I connect to music very differently,” she added.

Responding to online debates on whether her videos were a reflection of her true personality or her alter ego, she clarified:

“Yes. I’m a full-time goofball but I believe there’s time for everything. Some days are not always the same. I’m very much human.”
