Owerri—Imo State governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Hope Uzodinma in the just concluded governorship elections, yesterday, dismissed the report that he had congratulated the governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha as a rumour by mischief makers and called the on his party to disregard the allegation.
Uzodinma through his Director of Media and Special Duties, Declan Emelumba stated this in Owerri.
He also said that a video being circulated in the social media suggesting that he (Uzodinma) met with Ihedioha was not true, adding that the video was taken in a wedding ceremony and not anywhere congratulating Ihedioha.
The statement recalled that the APC in Imo State had rejected the results of the election, claiming there was wide spread of irregularities in the election.
“There is no truth in the video and news trending in the social media that the governor-elect, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and the APC governorship candidate, Sen Hope Uzodinma were celebrating the defeat of out-going governor, Rochas Okorocha’s dynasty in Uzodinma’s country home shortly after the announcement of the governorship election result.”
On the video clip in circulation suggesting that Uzodinma had congratulated Ihedioha, it stated: “The purported video showing the duo hugging are clips from the wedding reception of Charles Amadi’s (Chavon) daughter which was held in his house in New Owerri over two weeks ago.
“The truth is that there has been no meeting between Uzodinma and Ihedioha since the governorship election. Bedsides, the APC as a party in Imo State has officially rejected the results because it has uncontroverted evidence that Uzodinma won the election. There can therefore be no celebration of any sort when justice has not been served.”
Why I congratulated Ihedioha —Madumere
Meantime, the outgoing deputy governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, yesterday said he had congratulated the Imo State governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha because it was a victory for Imo people.
Madumere in Owerri also said that Ihedioha’s victory was his own victory.
Governor Rochas Okorocha’s deputy’s message to Ihedioha was captured by Vanguard where Madumere was said to have congratulated the governor-elect, 72 hours after Ihedioha’s victory via a text message.
The deputy governor has been in what could be described as a frosty relationship with his boss, Okorocha for not supporting Okorocha’s preferred successor.
Madumere had settled to support Hope Uzodinma, a candidate of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, as part of his plan to put a clog in the wheel of Okorocha’s progress.
However, Madumere in a text message to Ihedioha said: “I heartily felicitate with you on your hard-earned victory at the just concluded 2019 Imo governorship election.
“It is a victory for Imo people and it is my victory and victory for many other patriotic Imolites who collectively made sacrifices to liberate the state from the hand of the oppressor and traducer of our people.”
