Uyo—OPPOSITION political parties in Akwa Ibom State, on the platform of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, have expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections in the state, stressing that the outcome was a true reflection of the wishes of the people.
This assertion is contained in a statement by 42 state chairmen and leaders of IPAC in Uyo, yesterday.
It said: “One indisputable lesson in the just-concluded elections in Akwa Ibom State is the majesty of God in the affairs of man and, of course, the unflappable will of the people to determine who rules them.
“Democracy is about the supreme will of the people and not an exercise that is conducted under duress or through the nozzle of the gun or the sharp edges of the bayonet.
“The results of the elections are the true reflection of the wishes of the people.
“We feel proud that in our lifetime, credible and people-centric elections could and were held and the voices of the people and their votes mattered.”
The leaders of opposition parties, however, expressed dismay over claims by the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, that the elections were rigged by the electoral umpire in favour of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
They stressed that the elections only proved that PDP had a commanding almost cult-like followership in Akwa Ibom State and the results announced were the true reflections of that deep sense of fidelity to the party by Akwa Ibom people.
