Driver’s Licence: FRSC warns personnel against sharp practices

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned its personnel to guard against acts inimical to the mandate of the corps with regard to issuance of driver’s licence.

Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC boss

The FRSC Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, gave the warning in a telephone interview in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kazeem said that any staff caught engaging in sharp practices would face dismissal when tried and found guilty.

He, however, said that the introduction of the Driving School Standardisation Scheme (DSSS) targeted at digitalisation of the entire process made it even difficult for racketeering.

“This is because one can easily undergo the entire procurement process by himself online.

“The corps has an existing internal regulatory mechanism designed to curtail such excesses with the Corps Marshal’s administration’s philosophy of Consultation, Reward and Punishment,’’ Kazeem said.

He noted that the establishment of Driver’s Licence Print Farm and Number Plates Plant had assisted the corps in achieving a uniform identification scheme for both vehicle number plates and the National Driver’s Licence.

“The introduction of Driving School Standardisation Scheme (DSSP) and Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS), among others, have helped the corps to achieve tremendously in the area of drivers’ training and vehicle inspection in Nigeria.

“All these efforts are strategic initiatives systematically put in place by the corps to achieve the five United Nations Convention on road traffic,’’ Kazeem said. (NAN)
