WARRI ALL Progressives congress, APC, Warri south west local government area has appealed against militarization of riverine communities in the area, saying that Ayakoromo and several riverine communities in the local government were yet to fully recover from military operations in the area some years back
Speaking in Warri, Delta state , yesterday against the backdrop of call by some politicians during a stakeholders meeting with Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in Effurun, Delta state recently that more military men should be deployed to Ayakoromo community during the governorship election Leader of the party in the local government, Mr Moses Yabrade said deployment of more military men to the area will do the people no good.
He said those who called on Vice President Yemi Osibanjo to ensure the federal government deploy heavy military to Ayakoroma and other communities in the area do not mean well for residents of the communities.
He said the military presence in the areas were enough, pleading that Ayakoromo and other communities in the area should not be militarized with more troops.
Continuing, he said in the last presidential and national assembly elections, the APC, polled about 40,000 votes in an area that was hitherto a PDP dominated terrain, stressing that militarization of the area was not for the common good of the people .
As a founding member of the APC, who has been faithful to the party in season and out of season and have put in so much to strengthen the party in the grassroots of riverine communities, I want to categorically state that the March 3rd Presidential elections was peaceful in the entire riverine areas of Warri South-west which seems to be the case of other Riverine/Coastal communities, as no case of violence was reported and that our communities should not be militarized as clamoured for by lazy and failed politicians who have slept all through the years and expect a miracle of electoral success over night.
The military presence we have, should be well equipped and strengthened to be on alert.”
