The Young Democratic Party, YDP has flayed the destruction of its campaign materials in Opokuma, Bayelsa State by thugs the party claimed yesterday were aligned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The national chairman of the party, Mrs. Georgina Dakpokpo in a statement made available to Vanguard affirmed that the destruction was part of the efforts to muzzle the party in the state.
“Despite attempts to oppress and intimidate our Candidate, Engr Elvis Donkemezuo and supporters from time to time to no avail, it has become worrisome why the PDP is so scared of the growing popularity of the Young Democratic Party and our candidate in Kolokuma-Opokuma Constituency 2, so much that they have resorted to defacing our posters and banners around the constituency.
“As if that’s not enough they outrightly dismantled the new ones he put up with a futuristic architectural design of the Opokuma junction motorbike/Bus Terminal that cost him over a million naira. We lay emphasis on this to show the quantum cost of the destructions on our party’s candidates and supporters.
“We shall maintain our methods and not be deterred by the shenanigans of desperate politicians who only seek power as an end in itself and are desperate to do everything to get it.”
She therefore called on the relevant authorities to investigate this matter and call the perpetrators to order and on the party’s supporters to remain calm.
