YENAGOA—IJAW Women Connect, IWC, a socio-cultural Ijaw women group, has described the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections as unfortunate, but said the women are not deterred and will cast their votes on the rescheduled dates.
President of IWC, Ms Rosemary Graham-Naingba, in a statement yesterday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, who described the postponement as a setback for the country’s democracy, queried the level of preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the elections.
She urged INEC to put its house in order and redouble its efforts to ensure a free and fair polls in February 23 and March 9, as Nigerians want their voices heard through the ballot.
She said: “We are on our guard, dusted our permanent voter’s card, PVCs, and will not relent on voting during the rescheduled election.
“ We are not demoralised by this unfortunate postponement of the election, we are confident that at the end, the will of God will prevail in the affairs of this nation.”
