The Coalition of Democratic Concerned Nigerians ,CDCN, has lamented over arrest of candidates and opposition leaders by the new acting Inspector General of police Muhammed Adamu.
In a statement by the spokesman of coalition, Hameed Lawan said: “The unjust arrests of PDP senatorial candidates in kwara and Kano on the pretext that they were involved in political violence that involved loss if lives should be looked into. In a situation of this nature, the police can apprehend anyone and bring them in for questioning. But should not be done to exclude them from exercising their inalienable right to vote or be voted for. As they are still suspect in the face of the law”
“They should be made to make preliminary statements and immediately released on bail. Anything short of this is tantamount to political victimisation and persecution.”
The group urged the IGP to bring his internation police acumen to play in order to straighten the Nigeria police. Saying: “The IG is a high breed police officer, reputed to have held post of deputy commandant of INTERPOLE in France. He must of necessity and commitment to patriotism, rise above the crude shenanigans of out recent and inglorious past.” Lawan said.
