`Okada’ rider, welder docked over alleged N1.5m fraud

A commercial motorcyclist, Lucky Tega, and a welder, Tunde Alewi, were on Tuesday brought before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, over alleged N1.5 million fraud.

Thirty-one-year-old Tega and Alewi, aged 25, who have no fixed address, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy  and obtaining by false pretences.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, the defendants obtained N1.5 million from one Mr David Omoge on the pretext of doubling the money for him.

The prosecutor noted  that the offences were punishable under Sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, remanded Tega until March 12, saying that he  jumped bail in a previous case.

The magistrate, however, granted Alewi bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must present a year tax clearance and evidence of landed property ownership within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until March 12 for hearing.
