Kaduna—Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has commended Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State for being proactive during the attack on some communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state, where 66 persons were allegedly killed and appealed to Fulani community not to embark on any reprisal attack.

This came as the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, condemned the killings and called on the state government and security agencies to fish out perpetrators and bring them to book.

Don’t politicise killings, el-Rufai tells Kaduna communities

Speaking in Kaduna, Women Leader of MACBAN, Hajiya Khadijah Ardido, said rather than commiserate with the families of the bereaved, some people were trying to make light, the grevious issue of killing of women and children.

According to her, “as I speak to you, some of the injured victims are still in the hospital. It is painful that Fulani are being killed not only in Kaduna State but in several other parts of the country and little or nothing is being done about it. The government must rise to this challenge and stop all forms of unwarranted killings. There must be respect for human lives.

“Our people have always been very patient and tolerant and I am still encouraging them to remain patient, disciplined and tolerant in the face of any provocation.

The government should ensure that proper investigation is carried out and whoever is found guilty should be made to face the full wrath of the law, at least to serve as deterrent to others now and in the future.”

Meanwhile,  PDP governorship candidate in Kaduna, Ashiru, said the killing of 66 persons was a “descent to barbarism” and urged the people “to come together, regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences, to let the world know that we are committed to ridding our state of violence and at the same time willing to live as the true brothers and sisters that we have always been.

“This unfortunate incident is not only an unwanted addition to the past ones but is also a clear indication that insecurity still remains a huge challenge in some parts of Kaduna State.

“The fact that the loss of human lives has been confirmed makes the whole issue terribly shocking. The act clearly smacks of callousness and a descent into barbarism.

“I, therefore, wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, people of Kajuru Local Government Area as well as the government and the entire people of Kaduna State over this unfortunate incident. It is my fervent prayer that Almighty God, who created those souls will expose the perpetrators of the heinous act.

7 dead, 11 rescued, 5 missing in poll-related tragedies

“Meanwhile, I urge the Kaduna State government and all the relevant security agencies to ensure that the criminals who carried out the killings are fished out and brought to justice.

“This will require a tremendous determination and demonstration of a sense of justice and fairness on the part of the authorities whose responsibility it is to not only deal appropriately with the perpetrators of such acts but to also forestall their recurrence.”
