LAFIA—gunmen, yesterday, kidnapped the village head of Sabon Gida, Bakin Kogi, in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State, with his family asked to cough out N5 million ransom for his freedom.
Vanguard gathered from a family source, who wanted to remain anonymous, that the gunmen numbering about five, invaded the residence of the village head at about 1a.m. yesterday, and whisked away the monarch at gunpoint to unknown destination.
According to the source, the kidnappers have been in touch with the family and are demanding N5 million ransom from the family members.
Contacted, Acting Police Public Relations Office, Nasarawa State Command, ASP Samaila Usman, who confirmed the incident, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bola Longe, on receiving information, immediately mobilised a team of security operatives consisting of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and hunters to the area to hunt for the kidnappers.
According to Usman, “the command has staged a serious manhunt at the neighbourhood and its environs including Lafia, Assakio, Sabon Gida, Barkin Kogi and Assakio up to Obi Local Government Area of the state to ensure that the kidnapped village head is rescued unhurt.”
He promised members of the public of the command’s commitment to rid the area of crimes to guarantee security of lives and properties.
