The people of Amaekpu  in Isikwuato local government area of Abia State are at daggers-drawn following a  dispute over the ownership of the ancestral home of Ndi Uche compound.

As a result, members of the community have resorted to the engineering of one another in detention allegedly  in connivance with the police.  A  faction of the community alleged that another group, led by  an  indigene of the community  and  aspiring to be  king (names withheld), together with his followers, refused to honour an invitation from Force Headquarters, Abuja, last year, over the raging issue.

Sunday Vanguard learned that the police invitation came after the factional leader was accused of demolishing the native buildi6ng of the rival group’s forefathers in the community and erected his own preparatory  to becoming the king of the Amaekpu and Udumeze communities. In a petition addressed to then-  Inspector-General of Police, it was alleged that the factional leader vowed to take over the native compound of NdiUche family in Amaekpu village of Ohafia.

The petitioner, Pastor Anya, noted in the petition that a meeting of Amaekpu council of chiefs was summoned to address the burning issue but one retired Deputy Superintendent of Police offered to look into the matter but ended up not doing anything after one month ultimatum.

Anya further told  Sunday Vanguard that the factional leader who earlier refused to answer police invitation from Abuja later wrote a fresh petition to Abuja for the arrest and detention of members of  the rival faction after arresting one of their leaders in Akwa-Ibom State prompting palpable tension and fear in the community.    He appealed to police authorities to intervene in order to calm frayed nerves which may lead to bloodbath in the community.    Efforts made to speak with the factional leader failed as calls to his lines were unanswered.
