Nwafor Orizu Education College churns out 800 teachers at 19th convocation

ONITSHA – No fewer than 800 graduands of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, NOCEN were conferred with the Nigeria Certificate in Education, NCE and Professional Diploma in Education, PDE at the 19th convocation ceremony of the institution. In her convocation address, the Provost of the college, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo said: “704 graduands received NCE and 96 others were awarded teaching certificates.

Osegbo urged the graduands to see their convocation as a call to duty and a mark to the end of dependence on their families, adding that they should use the knowledge acquired as weapon of survival and excellence in their various fields of human endeavour.

She commended Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State for his commitment to the welfare of the staff and students of the college, especially for the construction of roads within the institution.and appealed to him to construct hostels to reduce accommodation problems faced by students and to convert the college into a University of Education, to help boost the strength of the institution, staff and students, as well as increase the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the college. In his address, Gov. Obiano represented by the state Commissioner for Tertiary and Science Education, Prof. Theresa Obiekezie assured that his administration was committed to providing equal educational opportunity for all, adding that education remains a pillar and an enabler in his administration to ensure that all citizens receive equal opportunity in education.

The governor disclosed that more roads would be constructed within the institution as contracts have been awarded while perimeter fencing would soon commence to further provide security to the college.

While commending the staff and students of the college for their dedication, Obiano pledged to provide scholarships to indigent students in the college.

Highlight of the event was the award of college prizes to six deserving graduates, just as Miss Marycynthia Mmaduchebe, a graduate of Biology/Chemistry emerged the overall best student for 2018 academic session.
