LAGOS—Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has said machineries have been put in place for peace to reign supreme in all oil producing areas especially, Aje Community, Badagry.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Olawale Oluwo gave the assurance at the fourth edition of a meeting by the Lagos State Oil Producing Areas Community Relations Committee, held in Badagry.

Oluwo said government kept faith with its promise of maintaining peaceful coexistence between host communities and oil producing companies in Badagry through constant interfacing and engagement meetings by its inaugurated committees on the issue.

Recall that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in November 2017, inaugurated a 45-member Community Relations Committee to ensure constant peace and safety of lives and property, among others in the area.

Oluwo said: “There is no gainsaying the fact that Lagos is an oil producing state now and the people of Badagry where the oil well is found, 25-kilometer radius into the waters in Aje, will not be made to suffer or regret on account of oil exploration in their domain.”

He said that a good working partnership is in place with the Federal Government agencies like the Directorate of Petroleum Resources, DPR, and other relevant state agencies towards ensuring that militancy and restiveness among the youths in Badagry do not rear its ugly head in Lagos.
