Turner is been tried on a one count charge for armed robbery at a Yenagoa High Court.

The youths also brandished placards with various inscriptions: “Government leave IYC alone,” “We are victims for no fault of ours,” “For how long shall this oppression continue,” “You can oppress us but you cannot destroy us,” etc.

Addressing newsmen during the rallyt, a youth leader and former executive member of IYC, Wisdom Ikuli, said: ” Our major concern and the reason for this protest is the dimension the matter has taken, the denial of bail and the continuous incarceration of the Vice Chairman of IYC central zone comarde Amiebi Turner who never committed murder or other grievious crimes that should have warranted the denial of bail but was only framed on trumped up charges.

“As we speak, Turner is languishing in the Yenagoa Prison without adequate attention and his health is deteriorating seriously having spent over two months in jail excluding the three weeks he spend in the police cell amdist physical, emotional and psychological torture, the young man has been dehumanized and subjected to so much inhumane treatment.

“It will suprised you that he is been pressurized by those who see themselves as gods to resign his position as the only condition for his release. This sad development raises a lot of concerns and questions about his ordeal and travails. It is forcing many to think and conclude that there are powerful forces in government that are bent on using this case as a tool for political vendetta or as an opportunity to reach out to some leaders in a bid to settle political scores.”
