DEMOLITION: Ondo govt compensates property owners

AKURE—OWNERS of properties affected by the construction of dual carriageways in Akure, Ikare, Owo Township roads and the construction of Ore flyover can heave a sigh of relief as the Ondo State government put smiles on their faces by paying compensations to them.

Cheques totalling N402.5million were distributed to beneficiaries from the affected areas of the state.

The state ministry of Works was besieged by thousands of aged owners of such properties as they were supported by their wards and relatives to pick their cheques.

They waited patiently for hours for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to arrive for the ceremony not minding the long delay.

Religious leaders and traditional rulers, from the affected towns and communities, were present just as they eulogised the state government for its development efforts across the state.

Distributing the cheques, Governor Akeredolu said the gesture was “a demonstration of our sincere commitment to the development of the State and her people.”

He, however, promised that in “our bid to accelerate the infrastructural development of the State, no one will be forced to bear any burden. This is why our government is ensuring that all those whose properties are affected by our development activities are duly compensated.

“The quantum of money we are paying is a demonstration of our good intention to the people whose properties were affected one way or the other.

“The payment is to make it easy for them to relocate, acquire new properties and continue life without hardship or encumbrances.

“Our government has awarded several road projects to contractors with proven integrity and good track records.

“I make bold to say that since the inception of our administration, a whopping N9 billion has been spent on construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of roads state wide.”  While assuring that all ongoing projects would be completed, the governor said: “All projects awarded will be duly paid for on satisfactory completion. The era of abandoned projects in the State has gone for good.”

In his advice, the Works Commissioner, Mr. Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money which was to assist them continue their lives seamlessly.

Olawale assured the people of the state of the unwavering commitment of government towards the provision of infrastructural facilities.

One of the traditional ruler present, the Olukare of Ikare, Obama Akadri Momoh lauded the government for the developmental projects embarked upon since assumption in office.
