ABRAKA—THE discovery of the lifeless body of a two-year-old male child has left residents of Abraka community, Delta State, looking for answers.
The corpse was discovered on Saturday by an electricity transformer along Umono Road, Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, after his parents were reported to have raised the alarm that their son was missing.
Father of the deceased, Johnson Oghenevo, who spoke to journalists in the area, alleged that his son was taken away by unknown persons while the infant was playing outside their apartment, Friday, adding that efforts towards locating his whereabouts proved abortive.
He said: “We raised the alarm and reported the matter to the Police that same evening and started looking for him. We found him dead very close to a transformer on Umono Street around Abraka Old Road on Saturday.”
A senior police officer attached to the Abraka Police Division said: “Though investigations into the incident is still ongoing.
“We are not ruling out the possibility of killing for ritual purpose and have taken fresh statement from the parents based on the fact that they gave Police conflicting statement earlier.
“The baby was discovered with blood stains and his genitals removed. No arrest has been made yet, but we would ensure that anyone who carried out the dastardly act is brought to book.”
