Ahead of next year’s elections, the battle for the sole ticket of Yobe East Senatorial district at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly between the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam and the incumbent senator representing the senatorial district, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim will be an interesting one.

The governorship tenure of Alhaji Geidam will terminate in May 2019 and he already has his eyes at the Senate.

Gov Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State

In fact, only his posters and bill boards adorned every strategic place in the metropolis. However, the incumbent senator representing the Senatorial district, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who is also the former governor of the state is seeking re-election to the Senate.

While many people across the state were of the opinion that Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, having served for three terms as a senator should voluntarily withdraw for Governor Ibrahim Gaidam to go to the senate, others argued that both of them should go for primary election to decide who will go to the Senate.

Saturday Vanguard spoke with Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim at his residence Thursday in Damaturu and asked him to react to the challenge he would be facing with Governor Geidam’s ambition to unseat him. He said “Insha- Allah I will be seeking re-election back to the senate in the forth coming election and I do not see anybody as a threat.

I have no problems with my constituency and the electorate. I have not been recalled by those who voted me to represent them and I am physically and mentality fit. All I know is that by 2019 I will be re-elected back to the senate “Bukar said.

The Senator’s statement has now laid to rest speculations that he may step down Governor Geidam to replace him at the Senate.
