LAGOS— PROTESTING electricity workers, weekend, suspended the picketing of the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja DISCO, which crippled and paralyzed operations of the distribution company for three days.

The suspension followed an agreement between the management of Ikeja Electricity, IE, and leaders of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, who led the assault on IE alongside allies unions.
It will be recalled that the aggrieved workers had on Wednesday stormed the premises of IE and barricaded the office accusing the management of unfair labour practices including arbitrary dismissal of workers, poor welfare, and uneven salary structure, adoption of anti-labour policies and frustration of the implementation of condition of service among others.
They called for an immediate review of the privatisation of the power sector, claiming that the power situation across the country had worsened since the private sector took over the generation and distribution of power in the country despite the huge amount of money invested by the government in the last five years.
