It was a celebration of Nigerian arts and culture at its best by youngsters recently during the 2018 graduation and prize giving day of TOBVIC Schools situated at Alhaji Murtala Ibrahim Street, Oko-Afor, Badagry, Lagos. In the spirit of federal character, the pupils made scintillating presentations and performances in Yoruba, Igbo and Calabar.
Unfortunately, these elicited tepid applause from parents, guardians and other guests at the event. However, the TOBVIC College’s choreography with the song, Like You which had a western twist excited many parents who gave the students a standing ovation.
Speaking to Vanguard, Director, TOBVIC Schools, Mr. Yekini Aluko, regretted Nigerians’ preference for foreign cultures, saying it’s for this reason that in TOBVIC Schools, arts and culture education is taken very seriously. “When children are brought up to understand and value their arts and culture, it forms a solid foundation for them which will positively guide them throughout their lives,” he said.
Activities that marked the hilarious day included the TOBVIC College comedy, TOBVIC College Igbo cultural dance, fashion parade, parents’ dance and teachers’ dance.
