By Peter Okutu

ABAKALIKI—YOUTHS in Ebonyi State were yesterday warned to avoid being used by selfish politicians to perpetuate any form of electoral violence including thuggery, kidnapping, ballot box snatching, assassination, among others before, during and after the 2019 general elections in the state.

The warning was handed down to them during a one-day seminar tagged: “Ebonyi State Youths Consultative Forum on Violence-Free, Credible Elections 2019 in View,” organised by Participatory Development Alternatives, PDA with support from Actionaid Nigeria at San Diego Hotel, Abakaliki.

Speaking during the event, the Policy Campaign and Advocacy Officer for Actionaid Nigeria, Mr. Arome Agenyi who stressed that youths should no longer be called leaders of  tomorrow  but leaders of today stated that the objective behind the seminar was to broaden the perspective of youths on their rights and roles during elections and how they can contribute their quota towards reshaping the political landscape of the nation.

He called on the youths, who were drawn from various communities across the state including representatives of Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Ebonyi State House of Assembly and State Ministry of Women Affairs, to unite against electoral violence, bad governance and sharp practices as such practices were inimical to the growth and development of the nation.
