Thursday, the 26th day of July 2018 will ever remain memorable in the minds of Anambra East constituents as the day a desperado’s excesses and abuse of power was officially mitigated using the democratic instrument of the Legislature.
On that day the confirmation of Mr. Cyril Okafor as the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East L. G. A. was stood down by the members of Anambra state House of Assembly. This resolution was adopted as a result of petitions indicting the nominee on offences which included stealing, embezzlement of public funds, misappropriation of Church funds, etc.
Having received these petitions that have to do with the integrity of the nominee, Hon. Pharm. Obinna Chris Emeneka as the member representing Anambra East state constituency called the attention of the House to the said petitions.
This patriotic service rendered by Hon. Emeneka to his constituency which earned him wide accolades within and outside his constituency did not go down well with the puppets in the party who are working for a co-aspirant to Anambra East and West federal constituency Seat.
Hence, the “Dance of Shame” which exposed their ignorance of Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),by threatening to recall a sitting House of Assembly member with fictitious signatures.
Why would a Lawyer as the Local Government Party Chairman ever threaten a sitting House of Assembly member with recall for saving his constituency from the embarrassment of having a man with questionable character as their TC Chairman? The extent of lawlessness going on in APGA Anambra East is worsening on daily basis , as you may not believe that the member representing Anambra East constituency from the same Party was not formally communicated about Cyril Okafor ‘s nomination as the TC Chairman ?
Would it have been right for Hon. Emeneka to ignore the petitions sent to his office by his constituents in order not to dissatisfy an individual that parades himself as the owner of the Party? Is it possible for few members of a political party to legally recall an elected House of Assembly member? Is this the first nomination that was stood down in Nigerian Parliament? Must these few uninformed people tell the world that they are political desperadoes?
For our Party to have peace, APGA Chairman Anambra East and his Sponsor must be called to order. The other time he ordered Ward Chairmen to return Cows given to them by Hon. Emeneka for Easter celebration. Today it is threat to recall Hon. Emeneka. If the Party Chairman who is intending to contest for House of Assembly seat is serious, let him come out and campaign like others. He should stop waiting for manna to fall from heaven.
We plead with our brothers to play this politics with maturity. AS WE HAVE ALWAYS SAID, THERE IS LIFE AFTER ELECTION!
