ABEOKUTA—24 hours after the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Gombe State governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential aspirant, Ibrahim Dankwanbo held another closed-door meeting with the former president.
Dankwambo, who arrived Chief Obasanjo’s pent-house within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential library complex, at 1: 10 pm headed into one of the rooms and held a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo.
The meeting lasted for about one hour and Dankwanbo later held a meeting with a faction of the PDP in Ogun State loyal to a member of the House of Representatives representing Remo Federal Constituency, Oladipupo Adebutu, at a hotel located about 150 metres from Obasanjo’s residence.
Vanguard gathered that Dankwambo had come to discuss his ambition with the former president, but, did not disclose what he discussed with his host.
Dankwanbo, while addressing state party executives and leaders, said: “In 2015, they came with the rhetoric of change. Nigerians never bothered to ask for the type of change they were bringing. We were in hurry and never asked how he wanted to change Nigeria from negative to positive.
“Nigerians never asked if he was qualified to make the change. I do not have to bother you that today, poverty is increasing, maternal mortality is increasing, insurgency is being witnessed not only in the North East but all over the country.
“I have been a governor for 7 years now and I am the only governor that came back the second time in the region. We have provided leadership before and we are still going to do more of it.
“We have developed an economic blueprint, we will share it. We are still looking at the event. I will provide the leadership Nigerians want.”
Also speaking during a visit to PDP leaders in Lagos State to make known his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election, he said: “In 2015, some people said they were bringing change, we are too much in hurry and didn’t ask how they will go about it.
“We never looked at the person whether he has the capacity required to bring change, we took that decision. This time around, in 2019, we need to ask questions, open our eyes and make the correct decision.”
