Naval officer, 5 others die in Rivers accident

PORT HARCOURT—No fewer than six persons have lost their lives as a vehicle travelling out of Port Harcourt in Rivers State collided with a truck.

It was learned that the accident occurred, Thursday morning, after the Choba Bridge on Emohua axis of the East-West road.

Some travellers who rushed to rescue the victims identified one of the female passengers to be Odumegwu PC, and as a naval official.

It was gathered that the bus had loaded at Rumuokoro area in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor LGA and was travelling towards Ahoada-Bayelsa area before the incident occurred.

A traveller, who was at the scene of the accident, Azunda Omenazu, disclosed that the two vehicles collided and that the bus conveying over 16 passengers cut fire.

Omenazu stated that timely intervention of other travellers led to the rescue of most of the occupants of the bus, but regretted that two of the victims burnt beyond recognition.
