The Health Department of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has called on Nigerian Pilgrims to ensure that they abide by all laid down health rules and other Taradudiyyah (movements) guidelines for their safety and well-being.

Alhaji Gafar Abolore, Amir, Folawiyo intending pilgrim to Makkah (left) with other intending pilgrims during a Special Prayer organised by the group held at Lagos Central Mosque, Idumota, Lagos last Friday.

NAHCON Commissioner in charge of health matters, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana made the call in a chat with newsmen in Madinah.

He said the health department has made adequate preparation and arrangement to promptly attend to the Pilgrims’ health needs, not only in Makkah and Madinah, but also at the Mashaa’ir (religious sites – Muna-Arafat-Muzdalifa).

The Commissioner advised the Pilgrims against wandering under the scorching sun to guard against dehydration and sunstroke.

He decried the attitude of some Pilgrims who ignore and reject all advises and laid down procedure and schedules of movements at the Mashaa’ir, at the end of which they get lost and thereafter aggravate their health challenges, particularly if they are hypertensive or diabetic.

Dr. Ibrahim Kana enjoyed the Pilgrims to take a lot of water and eat healthy, exercise patience and always wait for the next directive from their Pilgrims officials.

He said health personnel would be made available in virtually all State tents in Muna for effective healthcare delivery to Pilgrims.

The Commissioner, however lamented the attitude of some Pilgrims who make it a routine to go the clinics almost on daily basis, as reports so far show, probably because of the believe that the drugs were given for free.

On the general health condition of the Nigerian Pilgrims, Dr. Ibrahim Kana said, so far no serious health challenges, as in epidemics, like cholera and others, has been reported, except for hypertension, diabetes and the like, which are a normal phenomenon.
