Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala has expressed regret that Victor Moses, 27 retired so young from international duty.

Okpala said if he had the opportunity of talking with the Chelsea wing back, he would have advised him to shelve the decision.

“If I had one minute to talk to him, I would have advised that he shelved the plan because he is too young and still has a lot to contribute to the team,” Okpala said.

He was still shell shocked as to why the youngster should hang his boots. “I am surprised at his announcement,” he said, but added, “I feel he can still play for the country. The Nigeria Football Federation can still persuade him to have a change of mind.”

Okpala wondered if there were other issues not known to all that prompted Moses to resign. “This is what the NFF should find out. He was a very important player to the team, indeed one of the most hard-working and skillful players who cannot be dismissed just like that because he said he was resigning. They should ask him why so that we all can get a clearer picture.”
