Maid, security man rob boss of N3.5m

Lagos—A maid, Christianah Nanbert, and a security man, Hunem Ahmed, were yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing their employer’s wedding band and other jewelleries worth N3,540,000.

Nanbert, 26, and Ahmed, 27, who reside on Ogbade Street and Salusu Elegushi Lekki, Lagos, respectively, are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against them by the Police.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Solomon Mawari, told the court that the defendant conspired among themselves to commit the alleged offences.

He said the incident occurred on July 17, at about 8:30a.m. at Block 6, Chuks Onyebuchi Drive, Lekki Phase 1, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area Lagos.

The loot

Mawari said the suspects stole a cash of $1,500, a wedding band valued at N360,000, gold jewellery valued at N2 million, an engagement ring valued at N100,000 and costume jewellery valued at N500,000.

The prosecutor said the total value of all the properties that were stolen is N3,540,000, property of Mrs Leo Adeosun.

According to him, the offences committed are Punishable Under Sections 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

‘Not guilty’

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A. A. Famobiwo granted them bail in the sum of N250,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.

The case was adjourned till November 9 for trial.
