ABUJA—Workers in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, under the auspices of the Joint Union Association, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest in Abuja over poor welfare and remuneration.
The workers also protested poor treatment, lack of training for over seven years, absence of critical working tools and slash in their bonus.
Speaking on the reasons for the protest, President of the joint union, Mr. Ikediashi Uzoh, said the protest was not pre-planned, adding that the workers decided to embark on the protest after a breakdown of deliberations with representatives of the management.
“The management after a second meeting, has agreed to meet the request of the staff immediately, hopefully by the end of this week,” he said.
He said workers were usually paid N25,000 as bonus every Muslim holidays, Sallah, Easter or Christmas celebrations but noted that they had not received anything since the last Eid-el-Fitri.
Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office, CSO, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mr Afolayan Olaniyi, who addressed the protesting staff, said management had agreed to the terms of the union.
