Athletes

Bothered by the negative impression delays at the airports have caused, Delta State  government is looking at ways to effect speedy evacuation of delegations to the 21st African Athletics Championships.

According to Delta State commissioner for information, Patrick Ukah, the government is so concerned about first impressions that the visiting delegates have had on their arrivals. And accordingly the Delta governor, Ifeanyi Okowa is determined to erase such impression by giving the athletes and officials a smooth evacuation from Asaba to their point of exit from Nigeria.

“We are going to liaise with the organizing committee to see how we can implement a speedy and stress free evacuations.

“The governor   is not happy with the shortcomings noticed in the transit arrangements.

“But some of   these are not to be blamed entirely on the LOC, because some of the visiting delegates did not provide adequate information on their arrival.”

“Take the case of Equatorial Guinea who sneaked into Asaba, then the Ethiopians who landed in Enugu. The Moroccans who were complaining on social media missed their connecting flights to Asaba.”

However, he explained that the Delta government will make up for the shortcomings, as the State has spent a lot of resources to ensure that the championships meet the expectations of the Deltans, Nigerians and the visiting delegates.
