ABUJA-AS Abia State marks 27 years after creation on Monday, August 27, 2018, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Abia State Chapter, Mrs Ijeoma Wada, Monday, lauded founding fathers and present and former governors for actualizing the dream of the people.
Wada in a statement signed by her media office said the creation of Abia State exactly 27 years today was remarkable and calls for more commitment and patriotism to keep the vision of the founding fathers alive that has been fulfilled by past governments and the present Okieze-led administration.
She said in the statement that Abians also appreciate former Military President, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (retd) on August 27, 1991, along with other states.
The statement reads: “It is another remarkable day in history as millions of Abians home and abroad celebrate the creation of Abia State on August 27, 1991. Indeed, it is a day of reflection. I laud the founding fathers and governors who have served the State for actualizing the people’s dream.
“Abia, God’s own State. Alpha State, we hail! God bless Abia!!! I join millions of Abians to celebrate the creation of our God’s Own State, the place of economic invention and innovation. I acknowledge the efforts of the founding fathers, the former governors of the state and the Okiezie-led administration for the giant strides recorded for these 27 years of the state’s creation and existence.
“I also acknowledge the wonderful and amazing contributions of Abians in the private sector including those in the academia for the development they have brought to boost the socio-economic growth of the state for these years.
“I recognize the contribution of the young people of our great state for their believe and commitment to the development process of the state by being dogged and determined to ensure the development of the state by exhibiting different productive talents that have given the state hedge over her competitors and contemporaries.
“As we celebrate 27 years anniversary of creating Abia State, I want to specially thank the traditional and religious leaders for their prominent role played to ensure the presence of God in the state and where He has taken it to. Our women too cannot be left out for solidly standing behind our leaders to achieve what we are enjoying in the state. Our women too have enormously contributed the development of the state, and we can all attest to it.”
Meanwhile, she said as growth and development comes with their challenges Abia State has its own fair of developmental challenges these 27 years, but political and elected leaders will continue to tackle them and should be supported to achieve their mandate given to them by the people.
She also called on the people to support the policies and programmes of the Governor and other elected representatives at the local, state and federal levels, and should ensure peace and justice continue to reign in the state, and called on the people to troop out to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, ahead the 2019 general elections.
