UYO—Thousands of women drawn from the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State marched through the streets of Uyo, the state capital, to drum up support for the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019.
The women in different uniforms sang and danced, and ended the solidarity march at Government House, Uyo, where they re-affirmed their unalloyed support for the governor and vowed to mobilize others to vote for him.
In thinly veiled remarks, the women taunted the former governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet, who led the women, insisted that there was no vacancy in the Hill Top Mansion, the Akwa Ibom State Government House, noting that the women of the state supported the governor’s two predecessors, who governed for eight years each, as such the incumbent governor deserves to serve for two terms in office as well.
Speaking on behalf of Eket senatorial district, Mrs. Patience Ukpa, supported the commissioner’s position, saying that they would not support any other party apart from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
