ABRAKA – CHIEFTAIN of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has warned against imposition of candidates on the party ahead of the 2019 general elections stating that members of the party would not allow anybody impose candidates on them.
Chief Ogboru who is rumoured to be interested in running for the governorship position of the state come 2019, gave the charge yesterday at Abraka during a consultative visit to him by Delta State House of Assembly hopeful for Ughelli North constituency I, Barr. Mathew Omonade.
Ogboru who also endorsed the aspirations of Omonade, explained to him saying, “The endorsement you need is not mine but that of the people whom have the ultimate endorsement as we can only pray for you. When we endorse, carry that endorsement to the people and let them put their endorsement to test, if they don’t, that means they have rejected our endorsement.”
On his expectations of the party ahead of the 2019 polls, Ogboru while giving his assurance of free and fair primaries in the state, said: “One thing I would insist on is that the primaries in this state must be free, fair and credible. We would not allow anybody impose candidates in this state. It would not happen. You can take that to the bank and be sure of that.”
Speaking earlier, the House of Assembly hopeful said: “In an era where competence is the order of the day, I would be bringing new ideas for the development of our people whom have been deprived of the dividends of democracy for the past 19years of democratic rule by selfish politicians.”
