ASABA—A political pressure group, Oshimili South Progressive Forum, OSPF, has advised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State against imposition of candidates, insisting that a level playing ground should be provided for all aspirants during primary election.
The group frowned at the rumour that a female aspirant (names withheld) had been imposed on the people of Oshimili South to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oshimili South constituency for the state House of Assembly seat in the 2019 general election.
The group, in a statement by its President, Mr Bayard Austin and Women Leader, Mrs Ngozi Oputa, said they would resist any attempt to impose any unpopular candidate on the people of the constituency.
According to them, “One factor that will promote cohesion and unity of the PDP, especially in view of the fierce national opposition, is when a level playing ground is allowed for all aspirants through a free and fair primary election.
“If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end.”
