A prominent former member of the House of Representatives in Jigawa state, Alhaji Bashir Adamu Jumbo has declared his ambition to contest for the governorship of the state under the platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP. Alhaji Jumbo left the Peoples’ Democratic Party for a party which was considered insignificant by most people in the state.
Until Wednesday, APC in Jigawa state was not threatened by any political party because even the PDP that had structures in the state was yet to formally present a gubernatorial candidate who will challenge Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar in the 2019 gubernatorial elections
However, the rumors that a popular former national lawmaker has left the PDP to contest for the state number one position under the SDP was confirmed when Honorable Bashir Adamu Jumbo a four-term House of Representatives member came to the venue of the SDP state party congress with thousands of supporters.
Alhaji Jumbo who is also a traditional ruler in Kazaure emirate told his supporters that he didn’t have any political god father but that he was contesting following insistence from his supporters. He said his decision to contest was to rescue them from poverty.
The SDP announced during its state congress meeting that it has acquired offices in all the 27 local government areas of the state. According to the state party chairman, Alhaji Abba Ana, the party now has over 80,000 registered members in the state and over 7000 party officials in all the wards.
