AWKA—THE All Progressives Congress, APC, in Anambra State has begun moves aimed at winning the National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats in the state during the 2019 general elections.
At the stakeholders meeting for Anambra, South Senatorial zone held in Nnewi, the party said there were indications that many legislators from other political parties would defect to APC as the election drew near.
State chairman of the party, Mr. Emeka Ibeh, in a goodwill message he sent to the meeting, urged APC members not to relent in membership drive, advising them “not to hesitate to accept those wanting to join the party from other political parties.”
According to him, “the leadership of the party is already fashioning ways of repositioning APC in the South East geo-political zone ahead of the elections,” explaining that the Nnewi meeting was put together to provide a platform for major stakeholders and leaders of the party in the area to brainstorm on the way forward.
The deputy governorship candidate of the party in the November 18, 2017 election, Mr. Dozie Ikedife (Jnr.), who also addressed the participants, emphasized the need for peace, unity and cohesion among the stakeholders in the zone to be able to achieve the desired objective.
He observed that “there is serious work to be done to ensure stability in the party to be in a position to deliver APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates from the zone in the forthcoming general elections.”
In his speech, the zonal chairman of the party, Mr Izuchukwu Okeke promised a level playing ground for all aspirants and urged APC members to go into the field for the great task ahead.
