Thousands of youths who were members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state have urged former military administrator of Lagos and Borno states, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, retd to aspire for 2019 gubernatorial race under APC.
The youths under the aegis of “Adamawa Advocates for Marwa” at a meeting in Yola said Marwa was the needed ready-made person that could unite the party and salvage the state from being taken over by the opposition.
Members of the group who spoke said the APC led state government under Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla has divided the party and making it necessary to have someone like Marwa who has tract record to salvage the party and people of Adamawa.
“APC needs a ready made product to present for 2019, we can’t continue to rely on someone who still is learning on the job in view of the battle ahead. Marwa is the one with the credentials and we want to urge him to step out and join the race,” Laminu Waziri, the spokesman of the group said.
Other members of the group; Tanimu Umar, Isaac Danjuma, Joe Peter and Bashir Abubakar spoke on Marwa’s achievements in areas of security and empowerment in Borno and Lagos states where he served as military governor, adding that his experiences were needed to collaborate President Buhari’s efforts in addressing the challenges in Adamawa and other north east states affected by insurgency.
“We want to thank our new National chairman, Adams Oshiomole for declaring that all party members are going to participate as delegates in primaries, and to urge Marwa to take advantage of that and contest. We are set to mobilise for his victory,” Umar said.
Also speaking, Hajiya Amina Ahmed, said many women groups were disappointed with the state government empowerment programme which marginalized them and that they have faith in Marwa’s ability to carry everyone along.
“Marwa is tested and trusted. I believed many APC women groups who felt disappointed with the present APC state government will rally round Marwa if he steps out to join the race,” Ahmed said.
