Two cops, one hoodlum die during crossfire, as bandits kill two others in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT- Two policemen and a hoodlum have lost their lives during a gun battle at Ozuoba community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

It was also gathered that criminals had engaged policemen who were on operation in the area in a gun battle killing two cops.

However, the Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the development, describing it as unfortunate.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the killings in Port Harcourt, said one of the criminals in the gang also lost his live in the shootout between them and the police.

Omoni noted that the criminals had opened fire on the police personnel who were on stop and search operations Tuesday night along the road, killing two and carting away their guns.

He added that one of the officers who was by the side killed one of the criminals while they (the criminals) were trying to escape from the scene, even as he disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Zaki has ordered full-scale investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, in another development, the remains of one Samuel Wogu has been recovered in a bush at Omudioga community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the remains of Wogu was found with deep machete all over his body while his car was supposed to have been taken away by his killers.

A source in the community, who related the incident to Vanguard noted that the late Wogu had run into three strange persons and had just allegedly called his brother before he was murdered.

In a related development, men who appeared in police uniform have shot dead a middle-aged man at Total Street, along Rumuolumeni-Iwofe road in Port Harcourt.

It was learnt that the uniform men on patrol van had invaded the area and killed their target.

Meantime, the spokesman of Rivers State Police Command, Omoni, at press time could not confirm the killing at Iwofe road and Omudioga.
