Tinubu, Adebule, Okoya-Thomas, others task women to ensure Gov Ambode’s re-election in 2019

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Adebule and the Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos chapter, Chief Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, The Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, have charged women in the state to rally round and ensure second term victory again for the incumbent state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode re-election in 2019 poll.

The they noted that 2015 electoral victory and subsequent accomplishments of Ambode in the last three years were due to the total support from women and influence for his administration.

They made the remarks, yesterday, in their separate addresses during the Inaugural Thanksgiving Service of APC Women Forum, Lagos State to mark the successful completion of the recent party’s congresses and national convention, tagged: “APC Women- A New Dawn,” held at the party Secretariat, ACME road.

While commending women for supporting Ambode-led government up till the present moment, the deputy governor said: “With your support we have been able to do a lot of things.

“Your support has been very tremendous and has taken us thus far”.

She urged women to support the new executive of APC, saying: “if things are running well, it is the support the government receives from all, especially the women.”

The deputy governor, who commended the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his great efforts to sustain the party, led women to pledge their support for the  APC leadership in the state.

“Work has started, as we work for the party, let us take care of our family, husbands and children,” she urged.

Also in her address, Okoya-Thomas, APC Women Leader in Lagos State, urged women to join hands with her in the sensitisation of women ahead of 2019 elections.

She said: “I appeal to all our women to continue the campaign at the grassroots for our party, especially to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and collections of the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs) to ensure active participation in the election and thereby, ensure Ambode’s victory

Okoya-Thomas stressed the need for continuous peace, harmony and unity among women to deliver more than two million votes for the party in 2019 elections.

While also commending the effort of Tinubu in piloting progressively, affairs of the party both at National and states, the women leader, noted that the state government had exceeded 30 per cent affirmative action for women and urged women to participate more in politics and recruit their children as well for the victory of the party in 2019.

The wife of the state Governor, Abimbola Ambode, who was represented by Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, congratulated Okoya-Thomas on her recent election as women leader in the state, describing it, “as a round peg in a round hole. I have no doubt in my mind of your ability to deliver.

“God will surely continue to stand by you in all your endeavours.”

Tinubu-Ojo, who is also the daugther of Asiwaju Tinubu, commended Ambode’s  administration for outstanding performance.

According to her,”The governor will be voted for second term in 2019.


“I can assure you that the women leaders of APC, market women and others will support the dreams and aspirations of the party.”

In his address, Chairman of APC in the state, Mr. Babatunde Balogun, expressed appreciation onbehalf of the party to women for their unalloyed support, saying, ” No party is as big as APC and the party will overcome all its challenges.”

Balogun, however, charged APC women to persuade more women to join the party and register for 2019 elections before the exercise would end in August.

“The women leader will begin tour of markets in the state to sensitise and mobilise women for APC victory. The state voter register should therefore, reflect the population of the state,” he charged.

The party’ Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, while speaking with newsmen said, “APC is fully on ground in Lagos State and I therefore, appeal to all the members of the party to work toward the victory of the party in next year general elections.

The programme which lasted for over three hours also had in attendance many serving and former cabinet members of Lagos State government, as well as APC stalwarts.

Earlier, Christian and Muslim prayers were offered for the party and Lagos State as well as victory for the party in 2019 general polls.
