Music meets movie in ‘Lara and The Beat’

Biola  Alabi’s latest film, “Lara and The Beat’ which premiered penultimate Sunday, at the prestigious Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, is already receiving accloades, even as everyone is talking about its excellent ‘blend of music and movie’ to set a new standard in Nollywood.

The visuals and music blend together in a way that truly sets the movie apart from other recently released movies in Nollywood. At the premiere, it  was a resounding evening of fabulous fashion presentation and a mesmerizing music concert, taking cues from key themes explored in the movie; music, fashion and culture.

The movie started showing in the cinemas  across the country yesterday, and it has been receiving rave reviews. It’s  about the young and beautiful Giwa sisters caught in the centre of a financial scandal with their parent’s media empire.  The sisters are forced out of their privileged bubble, and must learn to build their own future and salvage their family’s past. The movie also tells a love story between Lara and Sal (a.k.a The Beat), who helps find her voice and jump-start her musical journey. It is a movie about Loss, Love, Music…and a Dream.

According to Biola Alabi, executive producer of the movie, “Lara and The Beat  is the outcome of many months of hardwork and creative collaborations with talented professionals in the industry. She said her outfit, Biola Alabi Media is committed to telling the  rich African stories, and sharing it with the rest of the world.

Starring award-winning Nollywood heavyweights Somkele, Chioma Akpotha, Chinedu Ikedieze, Uche Jombo, Lala Akindoju, Bimbo Manuel, Wale Ojo, Shaffy Bello, and Saidi Balogun, singer Shayi Seyi, rapper Victor,  Deyemi Okanlawon, Demola Adedoyin, Folu Storms among others, the movie is indeed breaking new grounds in Nollywood.

“We had a lot of fun on set making this movie, and I am particularly excited about the cultural elements that stand out in this movie,” said Seyi Shay, who plays Lara Giwa in the movie. She added.”Music is a big part of this movie, and to see how it was perfectly fused with this production, makes me really proud as a music artiste.”

According to Tosin Coker who directed the movie, “We are now starting to see a brilliant collaboration between Nollywood and the music industry,”

“This is very special for me because I started my career as a music video director, and to see this happening now and to be a part of it, is something I am really proud of,” said popular rapper, Vector. Like the director of the movie, Seyi Shay who plays the role of the lead protagonist, Lara Giwa, and Vector who plays her love interest, Sal, are both music stars in their own rights.

During the week,  lead cast members from  the  movie, joined by  the Director, Tosin Coker, and the Executive Producer, Biola Alabi, were stormed  the Cold Stone,  Ogba, Ikeja for the launch of  Creamery and Domino’s Pizza a new ice-cream flavour and meal offering, as part of the way to create awareness for the movie.
