Kerosene explosion: DPR sensitises traders, market women in Calabar

By Ike Uche

CALABAR — Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, in Calabar, Cross River State has carried out a sensitisation campaign to Watt market and Etim Edem park to enlighten the people on the safety measures for using kerosene in their homes.

This is followed the spate of koresene explosions that had bedevilled the metropolis in recent times.

Mr Bassey Nkanga, Operations Controller of DPR in Cross River State, who led his team on the campaign, said the awareness/sensitisation campaign became necessary due to numerous recorded cases of kerosene explosions in the state, which had claimed several lives and left others with severe burns.

Earlier, Operations Controller held a meeting in his office with surface tank operators and officials from Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, where he read the riot act to surface tank operators.

He warned them to register and get their operating licence, saying Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and Department of State Service, DSS, had been mandated to arrest any dealer without a valid licence.
