Asaba 2018 AAC:  42 nations confirm participation at delegates meeting

Forty-two African countries were represented at the Delegate Registration Meeting (DRM)   in   Asaba, Delta State yesterday with top athletics countries like Kenya and Ethiopia signifying their intention to dominate the Africa Athletics Champions billed for August 1-5.

After the meeting the visiting delegates expressed satisfaction with preparations on ground for the championships, in which top African athletes are being expected, being a selection competition for the African team for the Athletics World Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Speaking to journalists after the DRM, the Kenya Team Leader, Abraham Mutai reiterated that they are taking the Asaba 2018 championships very seriously as they are plotting to emerge as the overall champion in the five-day event.

“For your information, World Champion Julius Yego is coming with us to Asaba.

“Kenya is   taking this championship very serious. In South Africa two years ago, we were number two but this time we want the number one position and we hope our dream will comes true,” said Mutai.

On his part, the scribe of the Ethiopia Athletics Federation, Bililign Mekoya,   said Ehtiopia will be coming   with the largest contingent with the intention of topping the medals table.

Over 52 African countries are expected at the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships.
