Ajaokuta Steel campaigner joins Senate race

By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief

Kogi State-born rights activist and campaigner for the completion of Ajaokuta Steel Complex, Natasha Akpoti, has declared her intention to run for the Kogi Central senatorial district seat in 2019.

The social entrepreneur and founder, Builders Hub Impact Investment Program, BHIIP, said she is out to halt the degeneration of her people who, she said, have suffered decades of misrule and neglect.

Her media aide, Mary Amodu, in a statement, said Natasha has commenced consultations with traditional rulers and leaders of thought in the senatorial district with a view to securing their support for her ambition.

She was quoted as telling traditional rulers and supporters in Okehi, her hometown, that the decision to seek election into the Senate was in response to the call of her people.

Her words: “I have come because of thunderous call to serve humanity, which was so loud that going against it will be injustice.

“Without mincing words, it is a call to serve Ebiraland, to represent Kogi Central Senatorial District in 2019.”
