2 accused of chopping off man’s finger

Lagos—Two men, Ramon Olowu and Mutiu Sasore, businessman and cobbler, respectively, who allegedly chopped off a man’s finger, stabbed another on his forehead and also stole their phones were, yesterday, arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

Olowu 25, who resides at Freeman Street, Lagos Island, and Sasore of Adams Street, Lagos Island, are facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, grievous harm, stealing, unlawful display of arms and breach of peace, preferred against them by the Police.

The duo were docked before Magistrate M. O. Ope-Agbe.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendants and others, who are still at large, con-spired among themselves to commit the offences.

He said the incident occurred between July 12 and 13.

Mameh said: “The first defendant, Olowu, while armed with cutlass, unlawfully assaulted Mr. Gerald Nwaneri, cutting off the fourth finger on his left hand.

“Olowu also stole a phone valued at N50,000 and another valued N10,000, property of Nwaneri.”

The prosecutor also said Olowu unlawfully stabbed Me Toheeb Akorede in his forehead and also stole his phone valued at N20,000.
