NBA clears Obi Okafor, Ojukwu, Usoro for presidency

THE Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has screened and cleared candidates for the various offices in its biannual election slated for next month.

Statutorily, the offices for which elections are to be held to fill include the President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, 3rd Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Legal Adviser, Publicity Secretary and Welfare Secretary.

For the President, the candidates cleared are Arthur Obi Okafor of Onitsha branch;   Paul Usoro, SAN, of Lagos branch, and Prof. Ernest Ojukwu of Aba branch,  while  Mazi Afam Osigwe of Nnewi branch, was not cleared.

The first Vice-President has only one candidate, Imo Stanley Chidozie of Owerri branch. The candidates for the second Vice-President are Benedict Nwosa Oji of Warri branch, Dr. Foluke Olayemi Dada of Ado Ekiti branch, John Aikpokpo-Martins of Warri branch, Oludare Akande of Ikeja branch and Habeeb Adedotun Adebayo Adetunji of Ikorodu branch (who was not cleared).

The 3rd Vice-President position had Abimbola Adesola Sunday of Epe branch;  Odo Everastus Okechukwu of Yola branch, who was not cleared and Theophilus Terhile Igba of Makurdi branch.

For the General Secretary, there are Musa Alhaji Ya’u of Zaria branch; Mas’ud Mobolaji Alabelewe of Barnawa branch; Dr. Ojibara Mobolaji Idris of Ilorin branch; Chief Rafiu Oyeyemi Balogun also of Ilorin branch; and Jonathan Gunu Taidi of Minna branch.

We have Obianuju Mary Chukwuma Okafor of Badagry, Mercy Ijato Agada of Otukpo and Olagbegi Oloba Victoria Banke of Akure.

Candidates for Financial Secretary, Elias Emeka Anosike, Abakaliki branch (not cleared) and Dorcas Nnennaya Ngwu of Bwari branch, while for Legal Adviser, the candidates are Olayinka Oyeniyi Farounbi of Ikeja branch and Nnamdi Innocent Eze of Oji River branch.

Publicity Secretary has as candidates Williams Ekpo Anwan of Calabar brach, Olukunle Edun of Warri branch and Abdulrasheed Ibrahim of Lagos branch (not cleared). Welfare Secretary candidates are Anyai Sabastine of Aguata branch and Joshua Enemali Usman of Lokoja branch.
